Traditional Ceramic Aawambo Basketry

This ceramic patterned basket is inspired by traditional Aawambo basketry and its distinctive geometric patterns. The work transforms these traditional designs into a contemporary ceramic artwork using clay as the primary medium. The patterns represent cultural identity, creativity, heritage, and the transmission of indigenous knowledge from one generation to another. By recreating the basket patterns in clay, I create a connection between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistic expression. The artwork celebrates Aawambo cultural heritage while exploring new possibilities for preserving and presenting traditional patterns through ceramics.
