The Department of Social Sciences, within the Faculty of Commerce, Human Sciences and Education, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to join its dynamic and expanding academic team. The Department offers innovative, industry-aligned programmes in Criminal Justice, with specialisations in Policing and Correctional Management, and is committed to developing graduates who can excel as educators, trainers, and leaders within the broader Criminal Justice system. We seek passionate, forward-thinking academics to join the Department as Lecturer: Legal Studies and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the discipline.
Key Performance Areas
Deliver effective, student-centred teaching and high-quality learning experiences at the undergraduate level, including the development and administration of assessments. Supervise undergraduate student research projects, providing academic guidance and supporting student success through continuous engagement and feedback. Contribute actively to curriculum development, review, and innovation processes to ensure programmes remain relevant, industry-aligned, and academically rigorous. Participation in departmental administration and governance, including serving on departmental, faculty, and institutional committees in support of the University’s strategic objectives. Engage in research activities, progressively develop a strong and sustainable research profile, and contribute to scholarly output through peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge dissemination platforms. Build and maintain collaborations with industry, professional bodies, and other stakeholders. Assist with student recruitment, selection, and registration processes in line with institutional policies and academic standards. Contribute to community engagement initiatives by providing relevant capacity-building and outreach services that support societal development. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by superiors.

Job Requirements
A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Law from a Common Law jurisdiction, with at least four (4) years’ lecturing and/or relevant industry experience, or an equivalent combination of professional experience. Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) and sound knowledge of Namibia’s legal system. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses such as Commercial Law, Company Law, Law for Public Managers, and Sports Law, as well as supervise undergraduate student research. A developing record of scholarship, including research and publication, experience in curriculum and programme development, as well as the ability to establish and maintain industry and professional networks, admission as a Legal Practitioner, together with evidence of peer-reviewed publications and community engagement, will be an advantage.

All qualifications must be certified by the Police within the last three (3) months, A Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Conduct) not older than six (6) months must accompany all applications. All foreign qualifications must be validated by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). The normal retirement age is 65. Non-Namibian candidates who are deemed suitable for appointment will be offered a contract of five (5) years. Only applications submitted via the Direct-Hire system will be considered. Internal staff members must have successfully completed their probationary period to be eligible for consideration for any vacant position.
