The Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance within the Faculty of Commerce, Human Sciences and Education invites applications from distinguished scholars and academic leaders for the position of Professor of Economics.
Our Department delivers innovative, industry-relevant programmes in Economics, Accounting and Finance, preparing graduates to excel in an increasingly dynamic and interconnected global economy. We seek an accomplished academic with an outstanding record of research excellence, teaching, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership to contribute to the continued growth and impact of the Department.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:

- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, employing innovative pedagogical approaches and effective assessment practices that enhance student success.
- Supervise and mentor Master’s and Doctoral students, ensuring excellence in research quality, academic integrity and ethical conduct.
- Lead the design, review and continuous improvement of curricula to maintain academic relevance, rigour and alignment with industry, policy and societal needs.
- Conduct impactful research, both independently and collaboratively, while maintaining a strong and sustained publication record in accredited scholarly outlets.
- Secure external funding and lead research, innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives that contribute to institutional and societal advancement.
- Provide academic leadership within the Department through mentoring, staff development, and fostering a collegial, high-performing academic culture.
- Contribute to institutional governance through active participation in committees, quality assurance processes and strategic initiatives.
- Support student recruitment, selection, registration and academic advising activities in accordance with University policies.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with industry, government, professional bodies, communities and international collaborators.
- Lead and contribute to community engagement, outreach and capacity-building initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as may reasonably be assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess
- A Doctorate (NQF Level 10) in Economics or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in higher education, research, teaching and learning, and/or industry.
- A distinguished research record comprising at least twenty-five (25) accredited scholarly outputs, including peer-reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings, patents, or other recognised intellectual contributions, with at least ten (10) published within the last five (5) years.
- Proven success in postgraduate supervision, including:
- At least seven (7) postgraduate students supervised to completion at NQF Levels 9 and/or 10;
- At least one (1) doctoral graduate as supervisor; and
- At least three (3) Master’s graduates as main supervisor.
- Demonstrated success in securing competitive research, innovation and entrepreneurship funding.
- Evidence of leadership in curriculum development, programme review and academic quality enhancement.
- A strong record of collaborative engagement within the last five years, including partnerships involving joint supervision, teaching, research and innovation with universities, research institutes, industry, NGOs, communities or international organisations.
- Excellent communication skills in English, strong interpersonal abilities, and proven leadership capabilities.
- Proficiency in relevant digital, analytical and research technologies.
Academic Expertise
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to develop high-quality teaching materials and teach at least three (3) of the following modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels:

- Mathematical Economics
- Applied Financial Economics
- Computable General Equilibrium Modelling
- Advanced Applied Macroeconomics
- Applied Time Series Econometrics and Forecasting
- Development Policy Analysis

The successful candidate should provide evidence of:

- Strong academic leadership and mentorship capabilities.
- The ability to establish and sustain professional networks and strategic partnerships.
- Significant contributions to postgraduate programme development and enhancement.
- Active engagement in professional service and community outreach within the field of Economics.
A Google Scholar h-index of 10 or higher will be an added advantage.

Additional requirements include:
- Certified copies of all qualifications, certified within the last three (3) months.
- A Police Clearance Certificate (Certificate of Conduct) not older than six (6) months.
- Validation of all foreign qualifications by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA).
The normal retirement age is 65 years.
Suitable non-Namibian candidates will be considered for appointment on a fixed-term contract of five (5) years.
